The Garden We Do Not See brings together artworks inspired by 17th-century floral still lifes, inviting visitors to reconsider how they see the natural world

GAMA RAMA Gallery in Faro is hosting The Garden We Do Not See, an exhibition by artist Annegret Kellner exploring the relationship between nature, representation and perception.

Opened on October 9 as part of Open Studios Faro 2026, the exhibition will remain on display until December 19.

Through her series Picture Pigment and Deep Doodles, Kellner draws inspiration from 17th-century floral still lifes, reinterpreting traditional images of flowers to question how we represent, understand and perceive the natural world.

The title of the exhibition also takes inspiration from the poetry of Fernando Pessoa, particularly his heteronym Alberto Caeiro, whose work challenges the idea that nature needs to carry a deeper meaning beyond its existence. This perspective invites visitors to reconsider what they see, what remains invisible and how their own perceptions shape their understanding of nature.

Born in 1979, Annegret Kellner currently lives between Amsterdam, in the Netherlands, and Estoi, in the Algarve. Known for her photographic and sculptural works, Kellner uses provocative methods that evoke both conflict and comfort in the eyes of the viewers.

Her work has been exhibited internationally, including in the Netherlands, Norway, Italy, England, the United States and Germany. She has also undertaken artistic residencies in Brazil, Uruguay, Germany, Australia and Portugal.

Kellner’s work has been represented in collections including the Akzo Nobel Art Foundation, the KPMG Art Foundation and the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs and has been featured in Metropolis M, Trendbeheer and We Like Art.
