Exhibitions, concerts and fresh releases across the region
The Man Keeps Falling
Until December 30, the Lagos Cultural Centre is hosting the exhibition O Homem Não Para de Cair (The Man Keeps Falling) by Orlando Franco, complemented by works by António Júlio Duarte, Gonçalo Barreiros and Pedro Cabral Santo.
Inspired by Himmler’s Eyes by Rui Nunes, the showcase reflects on the human condition, failure and the passage of time, evoking the myth of Sisyphus.
Through a combination of photography, sculpture, drawing and video, it highlights the dialogue between artists and the exploration of the visible and the invisible, set within a carefully lit space charged with symbolism.
The exhibition is open Tuesday to Saturday, from 10am to 6pm, with free entry.
The Pleasure of Images
Until 18 January, the Portimão Museum is hosting the exhibition Nuno Júdice – O Prazer das Imagens (The Pleasure of Images), curated by José Gameiro, Manuela Júdice and Filipa Leal.
Visitors are invited to explore the work of the renowned Portuguese writer through pieces by national artists such as Graça Morais, Júlio Pomar, Jorge Martins, Rui Chafes, Manuel Amado and Duarte Belo, as well as French artists Bernard Cornu, Colette Deblé and Julie Ganzin. On display are also poems by Nuno Júdice and testimonies from notable figures, including actor and director Luís Miguel Cintra and Donatien Grau, advisor to the president of the Louvre Museum for Contemporary Programmes.

The exhibition also features screenings of documentaries such as Eco, Nuno Júdice by Rita Féria and Teresa Júdice da Costa, and Nuno Júdice, 3 from the RTP Archive.

The Algarve’s most unique town
Dutch journalist and author Arthur van Amerongen has released The Smell of Olhão, a witty and affectionate tribute to the Algarve town he has called home for over a decade.

Co-written with Will Köhlen, illustrated by Edwin Hagendoorn and featuring recipes by Nelli Konstantinova, the book offers an unfiltered portrait of Olhão, rejecting what the author calls the “glossy drivel” of traditional travel guides.
Published by Ezo Wolf Publishing, the book costs €25 and is available online.
