Casa Velha reopens at Quinta do Lago offering “exquisite fine dining”

Quinta do Lago’s Casa Velha restaurant has reopened, offering its clients what it calls an “exquisite fine dining” experience.

Casa Velha was the first restaurant to open at the resort. As it points out in a statement to the press, “the legend goes that it was from Casa Velha’s terrace that André Jordan, founder of the Algarve’s most exclusive resort, created the vision of what would become Quinta do Lago as we know it today.”

Recommended in the 2021 Michelin Guide, Casa Velha promises its guests a “unique gastronomic experience” with great attention to detail.

Chef Alípio Branco offers a European dining experience and two menus – Epicure and Tasting – featuring several mouthwatering creations.

The Epicure menu (€95 per person, plus €50 for wine pairing) begins with foie gras or cured salmon, followed by turbot served with asparagus, kohlrabi, green peas purée and mint sauce; Iberian black pork with apricots, ravioli with fermented cabbage, potato purée and pepper and apple vinegar sauce. Last but not least, a unique take on Portugal’s Pão de Ló sponge cake served with fennel, lemon curd, citrus and sweet rice ice cream caps off the meal.

Meanwhile, the Tasting Menu (€115 per person, plus €75 for wine pairing) features marinated red mullet with marinated citrus, carrot and coriander; blue lobster with strawberry, oyster from Moinho dos Ilhéus and caviar; wild sea bass with xerém (typical Algarvian corn porridge), and bivalves from Ria Formosa, citronella and pennyroyal sauce.

Also included is a taste of the ‘Sea and Land’ including scarlet prawns, Iberian pork and coriander cream, as well as a selection of vegetables and fruit from the resort’s farm, a Rubia Galega tenderloin steak with celery, potato soufflé, green apple salad and truffle sauce followed by a ‘Primavera’ dessert, featuring flower nectar, pine nuts, cottage cheese and wild lavender ice cream.

Dishes are inspired by and made with Algarvian ingredients, several of them coming from the nearby Ria Formosa estuary such as sea algae, crabs and shrimp. Many ingredients are also harvested at the resort’s Q Farm, from herbs to fresh fruit and vegetables.

“These are the details that make Casa Velha’s creations so refined,” the resort says.

Open only for dinner, Casa Velha is equipped to host exclusive private events for up to 60 people indoors and 80 people outdoors. It is described as “perfect for those seeking a refined location for weddings, corporate events, product launches or any other kind of celebration.

The restaurant also boasts the ‘Clean & Safe’ seal and follows all of “safety and hygiene measures imposed by the Portuguese government”. It is open Tuesday to Saturday from 7pm to 10pm.
