Toprak Razgatlioglu sets new Superbike World Championship record at the Algarve International Racetrack
Turkey’s Toprak Razgatlioglu made history on Sunday at the Algarve International Racetrack (AIA), claiming his 13th straight victory in the FIM Superbike World Championship, setting a new record.
Razgatlioglu finished Race 1 of the Pirelli Portuguese Round almost three seconds (+2.980s) ahead of Italian rider Danilo Petrucci (Barni Spark Racing Team) and just over three seconds (+3.251s) ahead of third-placed English rider Alex Lowes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK).
After claiming victory in Race 1, the Turkish rider won Race 2 ahead of Italian rival Nicolo Bulega (+6.299s). Alex Lowes finished third (+6.299s).
Cited by the WorldSBK website, Razgatlioglu said: “It’s been an incredible weekend. I have 54 wins in total and I’m really happy. In the last race, I was fighting with Nicolo (Bulega) and Alvaro (Bautista) but in general, I’m really happy. It’s very special because every day, we are becoming more like a legend! I feel like we’re a family in WorldSBK and with the BMW, we are at the level to win every weekend. I don’t know when this streak will finish but the feeling is good and I’m just trying to push for the win.”
