The Algarve is buzzing with an array of exciting events and activities this summer, offering something for everyone
Triathlon training
The Campus at Quinta do Lago is now offering triathlon training for kids.
One of the most famed Olympic events, triathlon is an endurance race combining swimming, cycling and running.
The training sessions take place every Monday and Wednesday from 5.30pm and are conducted by Marcus Ornellas, 7-time Brazilian National Triathlon Champion.
Thai experiences
Anantara Vilamoura Algarve Resort is offering Thai massages in the SPA Pool Cabana and ‘express massages’ in the shiatsu chair by the pool area.
Until the end of August, the resort will enjoy the services of two Thai therapists who travelled directly from the Anantara Hua Hin in Thailand.
Guests can choose between the Spa Pool Cabana or the Anantara Spa to enjoy various treatments and revitalise body and spirit with a Thai flair.
Revamping the Old Course
Dom Pedro Golf Vilamoura has announced an extensive renovation of its iconic Old Course, the second-oldest golf course in the Algarve.
The Old Course has undergone a series of updates over the last few months, with a new state-of-the-art clubhouse set to open later this year.
A careful maintenance programme will be conducted on the greens and fairways, bunkers will be sharpened with new sand, lips and slopes, tee boxes will be planted with Bermuda grass, their roots sanitised, and levelled, and some will be reoriented occasionally, resulting in environmentally friendly tees of premium quality.
The course will see more definition between the grassed play areas and the iconic landscape of pine trees, and with more sunlight reaching the fairways, which will have a significant impact on both appearance and quality.
Equestrian mastery
Albufeira Marina is hosting an impressive Equestrian Gala this summer. The region’s most proficient riders will put on a show on August 15, 29, and September 5 to honour the exquisite Lusitano horses, emphasising the beauty of the connection between humans and animals.
Classical riding exercises and choreographies are the main attractions at the Algarve Equestrian Gala, where high-school riders don formal attire, ride in Portuguese saddles, and perform to music.
The free performances, scheduled to start at 9.30pm, highlight the skills of artists, musicians, and dancers exclusively from the Algarve region.
Something for the kids
The five-star NAU São Rafael Suites in Albufeira has reopened after a refurbishment and with a special offer for families, focussed on children up to the age of 12.
The renovated space has seen an investment of one million euros towards the outdoor swimming pool area and the spa, among other facilities.
Designed with the younger guests in mind and for those who want an invigorating stay, the new spa has a heated indoor pool, sauna, Turkish bath, relaxation room and treatment and massage rooms. There are also experiences and treatments designed for the little ones to recharge their batteries.
Full-moon Yoga
Vila Vita Parc is hosting a unique experience, where you can immerse yourself in the enchanting practice of yoga under the full moon, with a stunning view of the Atlantic Ocean and lush gardens.
To heighten what will certainly be a unique atmosphere, musician João Branco will perform live using various instruments, including Tibetan bowls and handpans. The upcoming Full-moon Yoga sessions are scheduled for August 19 at 8.30pm and September 18 at 7.30pm and everyone is welcome, regardless of skill level.
Tickets, which must be booked in advance by emailing [email protected], cost €35 and include a healthy juice and a vegetarian wrap.
