From a new luxury resort and hotel improvements, to a marina welcoming larger boats, plus new air routes between Faro and France, along with other developments
André Gomes re-elected president of ATA
André Gomes has been unanimously re-elected as president of the Algarve Tourism Association (ATA) until 2027.

André Gomes vows to build on the work accomplished so far: “The Algarve is increasingly connected to the world and diversified in its offerings. This term will focus on consolidating our achievements and implementing strategies to expand our reach and results. We will promote sustainable tourism that meets the needs of both our members and visitors” he stated.
New luxury resort for Meia Praia
Sonae Sierra and PGIM Real Estate are investing over €60 million in a new luxury resort in Meia Praia, Lagos, scheduled to open in 2027.

The Project will comprise a total of 158 units, including a hotel and apartments, and will feature “one of the leading international luxury brands”.
Designed to blend with the natural landscape, the resort will have a gross construction area of approximately 17,000sqm, including “indoor and outdoor swimming pools, a state-of-the-art spa, sophisticated restaurants and leisure areas“, according to the developers. Construction is due to start in the first quarter of 2025.
Vilamoura’s new marina welcomes larger boats
A new marina for larger vessels was inaugurated during Vilamoura Marina’s 50-year anniversary. Boasting enough room for 68 yachts with sizes ranging from 20 to 40 metres, the new marina started being built in January of last year and represented an estimated investment of €23 million.

The new marina targets a “market that had a waiting list of over two years, causing boats traveling from northern Europe to bypass Portugal and head to the Balearic Islands, where marinas could meet their needs”, said João Bugalho, CEO of Arrow Global Portugal, which owns Vilamoura World. “Now, we have the capacity to respond to this clientele – a type of tourist who truly spends money in this country, invests, helps with development, creates jobs, and is enthusiastic about the Algarve’s climate and natural conditions,” said Bugalho.
New Faro-Bordeaux airlink
EasyJet will be flying between Faro and Bordeaux in France in July and August. The first flight will take place on June 29 and will mark the start of weekly Sunday flights.

The aim is to reinforce the airline’s commitment “to providing more accessible and convenient travel options for our passengers”, said the Managing Director of EasyJet Portugal, José Lopes, adding that this will ensure both the company’s continued growth and confidence in the market.
Dom Pedro Vilamoura Hotel to undergo overhaul and rebranding
The Dom Pedro Vilamoura Hotel, part of the Dom Pedro Collection and managed by DETAILS, is about to undergo an update and be rebranded under the Hyatt Regency brand.

“The plans for the anticipated Hyatt Regency hotel include a wholly refreshed lobby area with an upgraded check-in experience and new central bar, completely redesigned restaurant facilities with live cooking stations and contemporary and elegant, locally inspired furnishings throughout,” said a press statement. The first phase of the improvement works is scheduled to run until the end of summer 2025 with plans for the hotel to be fully rebranded as a Hyatt Regency by summer 2026.

Algarve development hailed as “model of sustainable construction”
The Arcaya residential development, born in an “abandoned forest” in the Quinta do Morgadinho estate, has been praised as a “model of sustainable construction” by Portugal’s Minister of Environment. Maria da Graça Carvalho praised the development for the way it handles matters such as “energy consumption, water savings, respect for nature and biodiversity”.

The €700 million real estate project is led by Portuguese asset manager Bondstone, which describes it as “a sustainable transformation in the heart of the Algarve. With a focus on eco-friendly construction and practices, it aims to create the ultimate year-round living destination”.
Aside from housing, Arcaya will also feature a clubhouse with a gym, a wellness centre, restaurant, co-working space, concierge, as well as a grocery store, laundry room and a bike-renting service. The first villas are due to complete construction from 2026 onwards.
