When Mercedes entrusted AMG with developing the latest SL, the message was clear: this would be the sportiest SL ever, in a clear change of philosophy and in pursuit of a younger audience that would revitalise a historic model whose golden days were long gone.
The new SL 63 S E Performance version adds a 150kW (204 horsepower) electric motor and a 6.1kWh battery to the V8 biturbo, which translates into 816 combined horsepower, a massive 1420Nm of torque, 2.9 seconds to reach 100km/h and an electric range of 13km, as well as top speed of 317km/h.
The nine-speed AMG-Speedshift transmission is fantastic and the 4Matic+ all-wheel drive is permanent, with all four wheels steered.
With endless options, each SL can be different from the last, mirroring the tastes of each owner.
As the most powerful and fastest SL ever, this is a unique page in the history of a car that has always epitomised the best the Stuttgart brand has to offer.
