Volvo aims to play a pioneering role in the transformation of mobility

By: Guilherme Marques

The new EX90 and ES90 reflect that ambition, with up to 250km of range from just 10 minutes of charging

Over the past 15 years, few car manufacturers have seen their public perception evolve quite as dramatically as Volvo.

Once regarded as an alternative choice, the Swedish brand now stands shoulder to shoulder with the established German grands across the segments that matter, earning a reputation for leadership in innovation, design, safety and technology.

ES90

The new EX90 and ES90 are the latest examples of that standing – both fully electric, similar yet conceived with entirely different layouts.

The EX90 came first and is the largest and most advanced SUV Volvo has ever produced. Updated earlier this year, it is now capable of processing 500 trillion operations per second and the 800-volt electrical system allows up to 250km of range on just 10 minutes of charging.

Buyers can choose between different battery options: Single Motor rear-wheel drive, with 279hp and a combined range of up to 680km in urban cycle; Twin Motor all-wheel drive, with 408hp and a combined range of up to 769km in the city; or Twin Motor Performance, with 517hp and 618km on a single charge.

The interior is wonderful, with a beautiful combination of materials and space for the whole family, the dog, luggage and everything else you want to take with you. Comfort reigns supreme.

The ES90 is similar in every way, but with a 100% electric saloon configuration, which is a first for the brand.

EX90

With an undeniably appealing fastback silhouette, the ES90 also comes with a choice of a 333hp Single Motor or a 449hp and 680hp Twin Motor.

With a very low drag coefficient of 0.25Cx, its efficiency is outstanding, reaching almost 20kWh/100km, a remarkable figure for a car of this size. Breaking away from the traditional saloon approach, the ES90 stands 18cm off the ground and even has an off-road mode available for adventures beyond the paved road.

EX90

As with the EX90, comfort is central to the driving experience and the quality of life on board is of the highest standard.

The premium ambience features a minimalist design, highlighted by the 14.5’’ vertical central screen, complemented by the 9’’ digital instrument panel and head-up display.

Apple Car Play and Android Auto are a must, enhancing the cutting-edge technology feel that is very real in both models.

For Volvo, the future is now, and it is fully electric. SUV or saloon, there is no wrong choice. The EX90 and ES90 are at the top of the class.
